Soroptimist Pledge

I pledge allegiance to Soroptimism and to the ideals for which it stands;

The sincerity of friendship,

The joy of achievement,

The dignity of service,

The integrity of profession,

The love of country.

I will put forth my greatest effort To promote, uphold and defend these ideals For a larger fellowship in home, in society, in business, For country and for God.

(The pledge was written in 1927 by Candis Nelson, a charter member of the Seattle, WA club. At the 1930 Convention in Philadelphia, President Ruby Minar requested the submission of the Pledge to be voted on at the Convention. The decision was deferred for six months so that each club could receive copies of the proposed creeds and make an informed decision. Six months later the American Federation of Soroptimist Clubs chose as its creed this pledge that simply states the ideals of the organization.)
