Soroptimist International of Bidwell Rancho-Chico is a group of professional women who strive to make our community and world a better place for women and girls. We are a chapter of Soroptimist International, a worldwide volunteer organization for women. Working in conjunction with this immense organization, we evaluate conditions in our community and decide how best to address local needs. These needs can range from funding a shelter for women who have been trafficked, to holding seminars for at-risk girls, to purchasing bus tickets for needy children. We believe that the club level of Soroptimist are the muscle that moves the mission “to improve the lives of women and girls”. Without the work and dedication of local clubs, Soroptimist programs would not reach the women who need these resources. Our club is dedicated to providing resources that empower women and girls to achieve their potential and improve their lives here in our community and around the world.
Please take this opportunity to learn more about our Club and the wonderful things we are doing to help women and girls in Chico and our neighboring communities. Whether it’s a fundraiser, service project, or club meeting, we hope you will come join us!
“I pledge allegiance to Soroptimism
And to the ideals for which it stands;
The sincerity of friendship,
The joy of achievement,
The dignity of service,
The integrity of profession,
The love of country.
I will put forth my greatest effort
To promote, uphold and defend these ideals
For a larger fellowship in home,
in society, in business,
For country and for God.”
(The pledge was written in 1927 by Candis Nelson, a charter member of the Seattle, WA club. At the 1930 Convention in Philadelphia, President Ruby Minar requested the submission of the Pledge to be voted on at the Convention. The decision was deferred for six months so that each club could receive copies of the proposed creeds and make an informed decision. Six months later the American Federation of Soroptimist Clubs chose as its creed this pledge that simply states the ideals of the organization.)
